Ranger — A Bigger Hosted Plan

There was a gap between Scout and a dedicated server: teams that had outgrown 25 devices but did not need a machine of their own. Ranger fills it — the same fully managed TAKGRID infrastructure, sized for larger teams and sustained operations.

TAKGRID MDM — Android Device Management

Manage the EUDs, not just the server. TAKGRID MDM is an Android device manager built for TAK fleets: enrol a device by scanning a QR code, then push configuration, apps and Wi-Fi to the whole group — and lock, reboot or reset a lost one from the dashboard. Included on Ranger and both dedicated plans.

Changes

  • QR-code enrolment: a single-use token per device, consumed on first sync, so a code can't be reused after the device is provisioned.
  • Kiosk mode and lockdown: lock a device to ATAK, hide the status bar and settings, and switch GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, mobile data and USB storage on or off per group.
  • App management: upload an APK once and push it fleet-wide, set apps to run at boot, then update, uninstall or clear their data remotely.
  • Remote actions: lock, unlock, reboot, exit kiosk, run an app, or factory reset a device that has gone missing.
  • Always-on VPN per device: a WireGuard profile issued to the handset and encrypted at rest, so field traffic stays inside the tunnel.
  • Fleet inventory: model, Android build, battery, storage, launcher version and last-seen time reported by every enrolled device.
  • Wi-Fi and branding profiles: push networks, wallpaper and on-screen contact details so a device is field-ready straight out of the box.

XMPP Chat & Video for Scout, Dashboard Redesign

Scout plans keep leveling up: the XMPP chat service and CloudTAK video streaming are now included with every Scout seat. Alongside it, the server dashboard has been redesigned — one consistent layout for Scout and dedicated servers, built around live data.

Changes

  • XMPP chat for Scout: private, team-scoped chat rooms on the shared server — create rooms and manage member access from TAKChat, just like on a dedicated server.
  • Video streaming for Scout: publish a live video feed through CloudTAK (RTSP, RTMP, SRT, and HLS) with one video lease included per seat.
  • Redesigned server dashboard: Scout and dedicated servers now share one layout, with plan-locked features clearly marked instead of hidden.

Scout plans now include CloudTAK access. Run a full browser-based TAK client on your Scout server — no extra setup. It's provisioned automatically on Scout servers and uses the same accounts and certificates your team already has.

Multi-Protocol VPN Gateway

Every dedicated server now ships with a built-in VPN gateway. Lock your TAK infrastructure away from the public internet and let your team connect over an encrypted tunnel — with support for WireGuard, OpenVPN, and IKEv2 so any device can get on the network.

Changes

  • Three protocols out of the box: WireGuard, OpenVPN, and IKEv2 — pick whatever your devices support.
  • VPN-only firewall mode: take your TAK ports off the public internet entirely and reach them only through the tunnel.
  • Per-client access: issue, name, and revoke individual VPN profiles from the dashboard.
  • Multicast support for TAK traffic across the tunnel, so meshed clients see each other.
  • The gateway is pre-installed during provisioning — enable it whenever you're ready, no reprovisioning needed.
